I really like reading this stuff. That's about the only qualification I think I have. I don't really know about grammar or spelling except I think I do know what 'looks right.' So, I probably won't be writing much about run-on sentences or complaining about 'passive voice' (whatever that is.)
That does not mean, however, that I am not influenced by the rules as I know them. It's OK to write oddly whilst understanding the rules, I do get a bit bent out of shape when it comes to the puerile ignorance that doesn't even know about spelling and grammar.
I like romance, and I like plot. There's not a lot that truly squicks me. Except torture and sadism and all that stupid attitude that demonstrates that infantile misogynists can still type on a computer.
I am perfectly willing to suspend my disbelief for a good story. I get annoyed when either logic errors or something silly, like flip-flopping tenses pull me rudely from the tale.
I see the role of a reviewer as a way to spotlight the sort of talent that I have enjoyed. I like the fact that we do not produce negative reviews. If you read something in a story which is incorrect, then let the author know. At the worst, you'll get ignored.
I also know how important it is to get feedback about one's work. I am hopeful that the review mechanism will act as a prompt, a kind of springboard to remind readers of their right to send authors their own thoughts too.
