Ka Hmnd: Stories

I had been in the military and gotten out. My world was still not a full member of the federation. Those in power were corrupt and killing our chances. I had a plan that would change that. First I had to remove enough of the system councilors and blame one of the drug lords. Edited by Bird Dog

A young man loses his family in an asteroid they were mining. His ability to fight using a modified runner gives him the chance to become a fighter pilot. When two teenage girls with special abilities join him they become unstoppable.

Designing and fighting machines was a hobby. When fleet came to him after a match they did not give him much choice. They wanted a new armored combat suit and they wanted him to design and building it.

A wounded soldier freshly discharged does not have much chance against a fleet of raiders. That is unless he find incentive and that was the two girls left behind like him. It was not hard to create and set the traps and then it was just a matter of waiting.

When the dark sorcerers began to gather an army to take over the world the white council called for a muster. My mother was a hedge mage and father a farmer... well he is now. He taught me everything I know and now I was going to join the army. Of course I did not expect the magical armor or weapons or the apprentice mage that was to become my mate.

When the country rose up and revolted I had to save the two princesses. They were not like their father or other nobles. They had always treated me nice so I loaded them into a wagon and we took the back trails and roads. The first group of rebels must have robbed a noble because of how they were dressed so I acted like a rebel. I knew sooner of later I was going to have to fight and when the next group came I was right.

With the end of the war came the draw down of the fleet and military. It also became a chance for those that fought to build new lives and become something. Once I was out I used the medals and awards that meant little while I was in the service. Now they helped pay for a newly surplus armed cargo ship. The only problems we had now were pirates and rogue worlds that wanted to take what we had.

A story in the Kaire Universe
The Deviant war was killing a lot of Kaire and even though we were winning we needed to adapt. I was picked to travel to a friendly empire to learn what I could about human space fighters. I got more than I expected and sent details and plans ahead to make and refit fighters. There were still battles ahead and it would be the first time we used the small ships but it was time to take the fight to the Deviants.

Attraction led me into the dangerous life of an explorer but it did not change my nature. Besides watching everything around us I was the chief babysitter for the scientist and father of the girl. First everything electrical died and then we had to climb thick vines to floating islands. Of course there were strange animals and even stranger plants.

A soldier with a year left before retiring is in a last battle when things go bad. First he is knocked out of a shuttle and then he is shot destroying a carrier and the enemy command. He is taken prisoner and they try to torture him before he is dumped on an isolated island with other prisoners.
