When I showed how good I was the sergeant took me to the elves. On a bet I shot against the leader of the elven archers and won two things. A new elven bow and a place with them. I also ended up with a mate and my new life started by fighting raiders and then mercenaries that would attack the king.
Poor water mages use their magic to salvage from sunken ships and build a ferry. It is a way for them to earn a living. When men try to rob the ferry it is only the beginning. Now soldiers need it to travel across the river and people need it to escape the other way. Between both groups are those that want the ferry stopped or the soldiers.

Crocodylia is a harsh world and scientist stand little chance of surviving if someone does not watch them. To make it worse this group wanted to study the ocean creatures which are even larger and deadly. Most of my job is shadowing them and watching everything else. There is also having to feed them and reminding them of danger.
An orphan and tinker has no choice but pay for protection. There was nowhere else he could go and the constables would not come near the neighborhood. Because of the thugs and criminals he used his skills to learn to defend himself. Seeing a graphic novel of a hero gives him an idea to use his skills as a tinker to make a suit. Helping a neighbor brings thing to a head and he puts the suit on.
