I enjoy reading well written stories that are short tales to epic-sized novels, although time restraints prevent me from reading stories that are too big.
As far as categories go; I enjoy fantasy, contemporary, but also science fiction. I suppose it depends on what the mood strikes me at that moment. I have read westerns as well and I also love reading post-apocalyptic stories. I am not a big fan of stories with a huge cast. I find that it's often hard to keep track of all the characters and they tend to hurt character development.
That also brings me to what I love about stories. I enjoy reading stories with character development where the smut drives the plot and is not only there for the sake of smut. I am a big fan of authors who show rather than tell what is happening, and who give the main character(s) challenges to overcome, rather than letting them cruise on easy mode through the story.
I have published various contemporary novels in the past and I'm an avid role player (post-by-post on forums, but also DM'ing and playing Dungeons & Dragons).
I hope this information gives you some insights to the innerworkings of my mind.
