A Halloween 2022 Contest Entry
A college student is struggling after both her grandmother and mother die in the same year. But when going through their things, she finds an ancient Chinese manuscript. Then a translation her great-grandmother did, telling a supernatural story of a magical pearl necklace, women that can turn into foxes, and family love. And after learning all of this, will she act like a modern "American Woman", or continue the unique "family tradition"?
This story is based on my husband's experiences when he was a boy, as well as the lifestyle he and I have lived since our marriage in 2000. It is mostly true, although some parts are due to my "artistic license."
This is an attempt to share my experiences with you as I go down the memory lane. Malabar is a semiurban area in kerala - the southern state of India. Majority of the population are muslims like myself living peacefully with our hindu and christian brothers. A vast majortiy of the menfolk work in middle east leaving their women with big houses, plenty of money and no sex! If you do get offended by incest please ignore this one!
