Workplace Stories

This is not a combat story, but a recounting of the activities of my father, a transport driver, and his friends in the Australian Army during World War 2. It's the incidents and events they talked about over a drink when they got together to remember the old days. Most are funny, in many ways, and some are frightening. They convey what they did to stay sane, and also why they were there. Included is the poetry by the author, nearly all of which was written whilst on active service. 24,900 words

Joseph Donald Taylor turns 18 in southern Mississippi during the summer of 1955. He experiences a lot of changes and learns many lessons about life, love, and sex. The Summer of '55 is going to be the hottest summer of his life.

His annoying neighbor makes him want to pull his hair out. The guy's 20-year-old daughter makes him want to pull something else. Little does he know that when she shows up at his pawn shop with an iPad that the interest on the loan isn't the only interest she has.

Aunt Marina has just lost her job as a shop assistant, finding that after a lifetime dominated by sibling and sibling offspring care, that she is free to determine her own life, especially when she discovers the person who ruined her is living the good life that she deserved.

A man notices that another male passenger on his commuter train appears to be wearing nylon stockings under his trousers. The man becomes curious and fascinated as to why this would be so. This simple glimpse of nylon stocking changes two lives forever.

A Story in the Naked In School Universe
They are off someplace with their other grandmother, their father’s mother, Ms. Fiona. There is a big stink going on with the two grammas. Gramma Andrews, has convinced her granddaughters to go to school in the NIS Program. Gramma Farrell is against the idea, and has taken action to get the twins removed from their mother’s care, claiming she is unfit. She dragged the kids off to see a counselor today
