Set in a fantastical reimagining of colonial America, a cartographer in the employ of a trading company finds himself embroiled in a conflict between good and evil. With no way to escape, he must contend with nightmarish horrors, hostile lands, and seductive forest folk if he wants to make it out alive.

World War III differed from its predecessors in that the United States had been sheltered from direct conflict during the previous two wars. Major James Keller, a former US Army Combat Engineer (Ranger), had left the military and was making a solid living as an Engineer.
