A bet during a game of pool between my future wife and a boy while they were both in high school turns into a fun afternoon adventure.
A colonization fleet headed for Spica IV meets with disaster. Only a few humans survive the catastrophe. One of the survivors is a Space Marine who takes charge of finding any other living people and begins to repopulate the human part of the fleet. They meet hostile humans and hostile aliens. This is how they keep going as permanent residents of space.
