I was offered the opportunity to write a tribute story to one of my favorite authors, Mickey Spillane. Although the characters are my own, I tried to capture the essence of a Mike Hammer story. I hope you enjoy.
From the files of Theodora Drummond — Private Investigator. Travel with Theo as she strolls through a tangled hornets’ nest in the seamy world of 1945 New York City. A time when the police will look the other way for a five-dollar bribe. She’s searching for Florence Randolph, the missing wife of the third richest man in America. But all is not as it seems, either Randolph wishes to hurt his wife, or she desires to kill him.
Thrown together by circumstance, a young lawyer meets a young woman and there is instant attraction. But he moves too fast and their hot relationship becomes business-only. And then everything is upended when they take on the case of an abused woman and child vs. an all-powerful institution.
Having his niece show up unannounced turned out to create a series of life changing experiences. None of them were anything but good. Exciting at times, but very, very, good.
A story in the Wittyverse
Kayla and her friends have graduated high school. Now it is on to college and the real world. New adventures, new loves, new friends. Yet, their crazy senior year in high school is not done haunting them. This story is a direct sequel to Birthday Pool Party. I did attempt to write the first chapter in such a way that someone who hasn't read Birthday Pool Party could follow along, but reading Birthday Pool Party first will enhance the experience.
