I thought I'd put this up a long time ago, which is why I kept referring to it in Hilley Ascending (what can I say - I'm old - I drink - I forget things). It foreshadows who Hilley becomes. She is eight years old here, and traveling with her parents in Europe. The story itself is much shorter than usual. But you will meet a number of the characters who appear later in Hilley's life. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it.

I'm reposting a story that I pulled from SOL and then edited to meet the slightly more stringent guidelines from late March of this year. I also changed the story's name slightly. Yes, I know Santo Diablo is Western Hemisphere Spanish, and Portuguese is the official language in Brazil. Tough tookies. Story of a spy who gets out of the business. He retires to Rio planning to use what he has learned to create the life he's always dreamed of. adventure, action, intrigue, and espionage.
A man is killed at work and is used in a cyborg project. He realises his niece and friends are young women, not girls. Her sixteenth birthday party is a two week sleep over pool party. Events happen as his killers try again and he objects. He has human emotions and inhuman skills. He wonders which is his most powerful tool, his body, his mind, or his heart. Which tool has the most effect on his life and those around him? Sex scenes.
