The Daughters of COVID-20 - Starts Posting Today

As soon as I finish this Blog entry, I'll upload the first chapter of The Daughters of COVID-20. Almost a month ago I told you it was coming, but...

There are nine chapters and an epilogue, all done, mostly longer than my normal. I'll upload a chapter every other day, probably in the morning.

First and foremost I, and you who read this story, need to thank my editor-proofreaders: 1) They kept me from drifting too political in either direction. 2) They had great ideas that made the story much better (If you don't like it, the fault is all mine) and 3) My fingers just don't work right and they found a heck of a lot of typos for me to fix.

So take a bow - Zen Master, Reluctant Sir, PCBondsman, Bohica, Steve, Kenn Gannon, Brooke, Rev, and Lou.

The timelines parallel real events, but they have been modified somewhat for the sake of the story. On the other hand, if you see a typo that we missed, please let me know so I can fix it.

Oh yeah, If you have not read Crumbly writer's virus pandemic story Love and Family During the Great Death you owe yourself. It is one of my favorites.

Let me know what you think.

Another Story Gone Sideways

I read VE's blog post and it sure describes what can happen. I mean, my characters tell me what's going on, and it frequently isn't what I thought.

The Daughters of Covid-20
, has been sent to several of my editors and proofreaders. I started out with the typical pandemic and survivors yada yada yada. What we got is a new, mutated virus that just happens to be identified and isolated at ground zero.

It is caught because it is very deadly to men. It just makes women very horny. One man survives. Why? How? Did I mention there is some speculation that it might prolong life? Indefinitely? This is pretty much the opposite of my story Siobhan where most of humanity is wiped out.

Coming to a post sometimes soon. Unless of course, the characters wake up and whisper more in my ear.

Virus

I'm about half way into writing a story set in today's Covid-19 world:

We know from reading about annual flu shots that a virus will mutate. What will happen when COVID-19 mutates and makes women horny instead of sick. What if the same mutation has a 99 percent fatality rate for sexually active men? One man tries to answer those questions.

It won't be an apocalypse type story, but it is about the next mutation of coronavirus. I'd be further along, but reality keeps catching up and passing the fiction.

One of the Swarm contingent is reading along in Dropbox as I write and has offered a lot of good suggestions and feedback. More important, the interest is enough to stay engaged during a lot of wash, rinse, dry and repeat.

The big question - should I call it 'Son of Covid'?

Blood!

Some of you know I'm a regular blood donor and a volunteer at high school blood drives. There are lots of large high schools in the greater Chicago area, and like much of the USA, the high schools and community blood drives supply somewhere around 50 to 60 per cent of our blood and blood products.

The blood drives I support contribute 100 to 200 or more units each drive. March and April are typically months with lots of blood drives, but not this year. Our Governor - rightfully I believe - shut down all public and private schools, and thus those scheduled and projected blood drives.

Many more drives are going to be cancelled, often not because they are problematic in-of-themselves, but because organizations and companies, etc. are implementing work-at-home. But if an organization is still functioning in-house, employees will be around the same folks at work/class that they would be at their organization's blood drive. Thus, almost no increased risk.

I'm urging you to support your organization's internal blood drives, or to go a donor center if a drive is not available or comfortable for you.

The need is desperate. Your donation will be used to save one or more lives.

Another very helpful action would be a double red cell donation. Takes longer, but twice the product.

I donate platelets and have scheduled myself every Monday on into April and will continue until I'm deferred. (Only 24 platelet donations allowed in a calendar year.)

So, folks, let's do something about this on-going, tragic, and scary situation.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and please do your part.

I just edited chapter 9 to add the sixth stanza. Your feedback indicated a strong preference that I do so.

Thanks
