James is new to the Pinwheel, and the first place he finds himself is the bar, where he meets a friendly Borealan named Datz. As he gets to know the rowdy alien, they're interrupted by her acquaintance, a Polar Borealan named Railha who seems intent on showing Datz up. James soon finds himself moderating a drinking competition between the two rival species, one that becomes increasingly sexual the drunker they become.

Corrie Jeffords, fifteen-year-old wife of a Mormon polygamist escapes and is picked up by a trucker who folds her into his band of brothers, aka "Wheelin Warriors." Through plastic surgery, they change Corrie's face and her identity. Then, while ferrying her from truck stop to truck stop to keep her from being discovered by the cult, they take care of their mutual needs while educating her to become a successful woman.

Matt Williams, a shy and talented teenage photographer, has always felt like an outsider in the world of sports at Jamestown High. But behind the lens, he sees everything—and someone. While the rest of the school cheers for Ricky Forrester, the basketball star, Matt is drawn to someone in the stands: Ricky’s mother, the elegant and alluring Mary Forrester. A quiet obsession begins to grow—captured in stolen moments, lingering glances, and secret photographs.
