It's just a coincidence that the two are from different universes. Both being struggling college students, their interests turn to ways to make money to afford to stay in school and to support their families. This is how their chance meeting affects them and their worlds.

It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.
