A Vulcan colony story in the Swarm Cycle Universe. Now that his family has been picked up and General Fred Winthrop has been assigned a colony to run, he needs some people to populate it. If it has been a while since you read Part 1, you might want to check the cast of characters included with that story. A young man loses his family in an asteroid they were mining. His ability to fight using a modified runner gives him the chance to become a fighter pilot. When two teenage girls with special abilities join him they become unstoppable.

What is the future supposed to do when living in the now is sheer misery? Maybe the future reaches back into the past and tries to correct the most egregious sources of problems.

An elite Soldier pledged only to the empire is put into stasis for a mission. What he does not know is that it was rigged and the mission was supposed to fail. He awakes to a new time where his unit no longer exits and where his cadet family is gone. As the emperor's champion his authority is second only to the emperor who is in need of help and his is family.
