A bad back brings about unexpected results

Amber Wilson and Kim Hudson were friends from the first time they met. As they grew up, they enjoyed many adventures. This is the first in a series of short stories about the two girls and their journey toward adult hood. The stories take place in the seventies'"a time of change. The Vietnam War ended and women began expressing their sexual freedom. Amber and Kim, like so many teenagers of the era, set out to enjoy as many things as they could.

Nancy attended a retreat with four other women from her department, including her good friend Mary. Several of the women decide to try nude hot-tubbing after a long day of work. Nancy gets excited about the possibility of being naked with them, especially after she tells her husband what's been going on at the retreat. But her friend Mary has some surprising reactions to Nancy's playfulness. (NOTE: I first posted part of this story as LaurenMom. I've now finished and posted it in full here.)

The customs of all cultures seem strange and for little purpose when viewed from outside their context. Ceremonies and rites of passage matter tremendously to those inside, but to the rest of us, we just starch our heads. This is a short story of one such custom as seen through the eyes of the principal involved. Sure we can wonder why, but in this case I say, Why not? / (Reviews)
