I don't get mad...I get even

Magic leaks through a rift in the barrier between the human world and Hell. Demons, vampires, harpies, and other monsters come through that rift. Closing the rift to seal out the monsters would also shut off the source of magic, but nobody wants to do that because of the wondrous changes made possible by magic. This is how the problem is solved after 2,000 years of trying.

A Story in the Who Were They? Universe
They arrived from deep space and ignored us. When they left, they left scars all over the planet and especially on our souls. We didn't know who they were or why they came, but when they left, we knew what they had done.

This story is not true, but sort of an amalgamation of a number of stories told to me by several members of the military. I don't know how factual the basic premise might be, but when you hear similar stories from a number of unrelated sources, you tend to believe there is more than a grain of truth to it.

Summer is drawing to a close. April was a late arrival on the island but she was determined to have fun even if her best friend Lucy was unable to join her. There was always a chance of finding Romance and Adventure without her.
