This is my thank you note for those men who served in WWI. I had two great-uncles who were in France, and one was gassed, but survived. He fought a battle with what mustard gas had done to his lungs for the rest of his life. This is a what-if kind of story. Suppose the US Army had used a little imagination. Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorite movies. So when I sat down to write this, I wrote it from a modern warfare perspective and put the first scene starting after they had the money and were escaping. The end of the story is what they did with the reward money. I left a bit of room for sequel, but I'll only write it if there's enough interest.
