On her way home from school, a teenage girl is caught in a thunderstorm. The only place she can find shelter is an adults-only store. She had been walking by it for months, growing increasingly curious about what was behind those blacked-out windows. This is the day she finds out.

John Jolly is recently divorced, homeless, unemployed and depressingly unemployable. Doing voluntary work at the local Manor has opened up possibilities, a roof over his head where he can at least have his 9yo daughter stay with him overnight. It’s Friday night, he has worked voluntarily in the Manor gardens all week and Her Ladyship has insisted on rewarding his efforts, to borrow a suit and immediately drive to her local restaurant for a meal at her expense. Reluctantly he agrees.
