Lieutenant Vynn, an iconoclastic officer in the Imperial Navy, has just returned from a hellish voyage with a hope of promotion to Master and Commander of her very own starship. Her dreams of prizes and glory alike dash against the realities of being captain. She is joined by a boon companion and deadly ally: Doctor Jonathan Balthezar, a civilian chirurgeon and armature xenobiologist with a mysterious past. The two form an unlikely and lasting friendship to face the galaxy forever.
This is story inspired by, but NOT a part of the "Swarm Cycle Universe" about a boy genius who comes up with a plan to defeat an alien race known as the Vermin, that intends to invade Earth. Will he be successful in this venture? What complications will he face? Is he man enough to handle the sheer number of companions he's been issued, and can he live with the results of his actions?
A Story in the A New World Tree Is Possible Universe
The last Mage is waiting at the last remaining star in a dying Universe. He's waiting for the last battle against the only real Enemy of all sentient species in the history of the Universe. Survival isn't a desired outcome, with all other life in the Universe extinguished. Killing the Enemy that has killed all the Mage has ever loved is the only goal. After all, what more could there be after the last battle?
