The plot has many surprises. I don't want to reveal too much. Backscatter is a near term futuristic story, starting in Bell County Texas in the 2040's. It's a story of epic adventure, lots of hard SF, and it starts with something as simple as a grocery shopping list.

A Cupid's Tale: The good news, Gwen, is that Julius, the cupid responsible for your part of the country, has finally found your true love. The bad news is that Julius is probably the worst archer in cupiddom. Fasten your seat belt; you may be in for a bumpy ride.
Vic was born and raised in an odd commune. His father and 'uncles' were planning on surviving WW III. Vic took to the survivalist mentality and learned to fight.
