The topic is "The End of the Affair." My problem is that everybody from Ovid to Henry Miller has had something to say about that - not to mention a few million folks on this site. So, I took a slightly different interpretation of "the end" here. My hero makes a bad choice. But he has decent instincts and with a little help from an unlikely source he eventually learns how to be a good person. Some of you might find this a bit allegorical. Kevin Butcher, a former U. S. Marine, is trying to finish college while working as a contractor. He takes a job several counties distant and rents a room from a local Mennonite farmer. Of course, the farmer has an attractive daughter. But the son of a local gangster wants the farmer's daughter and will do anything to have her. Note: Some of the characters are religious, but this is not a story about religion. There is some violence and a threat of rape. This is not a stroke story! / (Reviews)
