Benjin's Swarm Stories

Posted at

Some years ago, at the beginning of the Swarm Cycle, Benjin wrote several excellent stories and posted them on the now virtually defunct ASSTR. He lost interest in writing more and never posted them here. As they are some of my favorites, I contacted him and obtained permission to 'port them on SOL.

Please note that English is not Benjin's native language, so there are some discrepancies that I decided not to address in order not to have two versions. You can find all his stories by Googling Benjin and ASSTR.

If all goes well, Joacim & L'ielit will begin posting here on Friday morning, April 22nd. Once they begin, one chapter will post each day. There are ten chapters in all.

There are several other stories in this series, and I will try to get them done soon.

As Benjin is no longer interested, I turned off his email contact, but will try to enable comments. Please rate and comment.

Enjoy!

New Author - Nietzshe

Be on the lookout for a new Swarm Cycle story by new author, Nietzshe.

Neetz has an interesting take on the Confederacy and freedom.

Be aware that Neetz is not a native English speaker and neither is his primary character. We proofreaders did not try hard to correct the narrator's speech, limiting ourselves to the native American characters.

Enjoy!

Mayfield Kentucky

Some of you picked up from one of my stories that I once lived in Murray, Kentucky, a few miles down the road from Mayfield. Last night, Mayfield was devastated by one of the worst tornadoes on record.

My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and their friends.

Brownout

Kenn Ghannon's entry inspired me to give you an update.

I'm a slow writer and almost as slow at editing and proofreading for others. This year I'm even slower - I'd call it brownout rather than burnout or abandonment by a muse. It is amazing how authors like Aroslav can consistently produce such a high volume of high quality stories.

I'm slowly proofing stories by Allan Joyal, Vince Berg, and a new guy writing in the Swarm Cycle. You'll like all three stories. Switching back and forth while proofing helps keep involvement with a story from getting so engaging that stuff gets overlooked.

My current work-in-progress is The Beard. The premise is that the brain ship, Caleb/Cheval Jaune, and his human companions need to disguise the fact that humans are aboard when visiting various members of the Confederacy. It may not be finished, proofed, and uploaded before year end.

Some elements already roughed in detail explain how Tuull do sex, an extraction from Vietnam, and the retirement the Tuull lead councilor. Trade goods will include the concept of fireworks and AI's that simulate cats. I've been sorta hoping to bring in a planet similar to Anne McCaffrey's Ballybran in her Crystal Singer series. What kind of beings would live there? We'll see.

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome, but no promises.

I'm encouraged that you folks continue reading my stories, even with the posting slow down. I passed three quarters of a million downloads a little while back. That's amazing for a 75-year-old amateur fiction writer who can't type worth a darn...

So thanks for reading my stories and for the many comments and suggestions.

Mike
