Ka Hmnd: Stories

Seers see major things in the future. Ours look for and find violence like terrorists or bombers. The response teams are there to stop that but we can only act at the time the violence begins. Only now someone who knows and supports the terrorists is setting traps for us.

A rebellious teen is sent to a new military academy, one of many in a long series of academies. He decides to help a new girl that arrived with him on a SERE course. When he overhears the instructors talking about killing her he has to act.

Critically wounded during a battle I was put into stasis. When they finally decided to do something they did not ask or talk to me. They engineered and cloned my body and transferred my mind. That meant I was dead to the empire and the marines. I had to start over and joined a company of mercenaries while I fought to regain what I had lost.

A half breed elf works in a tavern as a breaker. Retreat is a port town of thieves and wanted men. When a gang wants to start a protection scheme they have serious problems with the tavern. Then there is the fancy pimp that wants the tavern and pushes the breaker to far.

William, an illegitimate son of the king, returns home after being away for a while, and finds the kingdom in turmoil. He becomes a thief that helps the poor.

The program was to create men and women to become soldiers. From the time we were babies that was what they began training us to be. Only before the program could begin to accept us into the fleet or marines our system was attacked. There were ten thousand of us old enough to fight. We lost more than our lives that day. The few still alive were given compensation and the program stopped. Now I live on a water world and had to face life and criminals.

A bard starting out on his own travels to the Elven lands. He finds a human army already there and hunting wild elves. He saves a half elven girl and continues into the forest. At one of the few bridges over a deep gorge he meets Elves. They warn him to leave because the human army was coming. He could not let such as those invade the elven lands and stands before the bridge. He faces the army alone and holds them until elven hunters come.

A slave acts when their ship is captured by pirates. He knew touching or using weapons meant death and accepted it. What he got was freedom and a new life.
