Book 1 began the story telling of the Day of Destruction or the Day. It told of George and Jane Andrews and the establishment of Protection in western Tennessee. The story of Jack Mathews and his marriage and adventures with Shirley began. This book continues with the story of Jack and Shirley and their community, Preservation, as well as continuing the story of Protection.
