I do love me a solid romance between young adults. This story delivers just that, most excellently. (PennLady mines this vein very well. Check out all her novel-length fics.)

Specifically, it’s a sweet and hot romance between two inexperienced people with divergent careers and commitment phobias, but who are nonetheless drawn to each other. Specifically, Brody (yes, that’s a guy’s name) is a professional hockey player and so playing road games and Ryan (yes, that’s a girl’s name) is a musician and so gigging, and the leads’ commitments to their vocations are well-handled. As is their growing commitment to each other.

Well-written, with an excellent story arc that fires on all cylinders, this is possibly the best new adult romance I’ve read on SOL. My one disappointment is that Ryan’s awful family never gets the dressing down they so richly deserve. (Seriously, her parents are terrible. Yeesh!) Strongly recommended.

(BTW, if you want another romance with a hockey player, try the author’s “Nothing Gets Through.”)

Sports + sex, what's not to like?

This story is good to start with and gets even better. If I needed one word , it would be... normal. That's what draws me to this author in general and why I reviewed this story.

The guitarist and the hockey player get into a normal relationship. It's set in D.C. and goes in fits and starts with all the head games you expect of a modern relationship. Some sex, make that safe sex. And loving parents...well, not so much. Life gets in the way with jobs and family and travel-like it always does.

I like that there's no imaginary villains or harems or lotteries or story codes that make me cringe. The people act and react like you would expect people to act/react. Funny, sad, mad, stupid or clever - they're all here. You want to yell when they're stupid and reach out when they're sad.

The author weaves them all together and it fits.
