For those fans of Cold Creek who are waiting for Defenseman Three to continue and others who would like an opportunity to read an excellent how to become a multi millionaire story, here is my recommendation. Read OMR as soon as you can. The author has compressed two stories together seamlessly, the before he gets rich and the immediately after, and throws in some hot mostly three-way sex to make a story that should please almost everyone.
The possible people who won't be pleased are the Grammar Nazis and others who dislike editing/proofreading errors. I am assigning a Technical score of 5, which is below average, the equivalent of a D. Words are omitted, the wrong word is used, probably due to reliance on spell check, and in one part of Chapter 14 Emmy talks to Emmy. This is one of the author's early stories, from 2009. his second story here and his first long one. There isn't a credit for an editor or proofreader, and I think it shows.
The other possible issue is the ending. Its at a good point as far as I am concerned, but the author promises to write more about the characters. Instead he found hockey more interesting. The characters at the end are planning a trip, what happens next would make another interesting story. After the rest of D-man 3 please.
The plot is serviceable with a lot of legerdemain on how the hero can read surface thoughts. Why else call it the Occasional Mind Reader if he can't? There is action and we get to know the hero as an engineer working a 70 hour week for 40 hours pay, and the people he works with, including his girlfriend whose brother is his boss. The story is set up to go in other directions, it looks to me, until the decision to add a big inheritance is added to the plot. I try not to throw too many spoilers into my reviews, but so much happens its hard to avoid some.
The 8s for Plot and Appeal are the equivalent of an A grade, excellent. Nines are A plus and Tens are maybe once a month if the story takes my breath away. This is an excellent story but not quite to the D-man level. It is well worth reading. I recommend it to everyone. Maybe you can enjoy thinking about what happens next, after Cold Creek ends the story.
