This is a very old story that I do not recall having read before though I have been reading and greatly enjoying Seas-Life's stories for many years before this one came out in 2008.

Read it now and I think you will like it as much as I have done.

The theme of an alien race with advanced technology gathering Earth people before an Armageddon event took out our planet is not all that new. It has been a favoured meme among sci-fi writers for years.

This tale takes the story further than that.

We follow 4 of the retrieved humans as they develop their skills and relationships among the alien cultures that they are now part of. Two become soldiers but very very good at the role. One becomes a soldier but develops into a respected Administrator and also a peacemaker. Lastly, one becomes a high-level scientist and makes several breakthroughs in the science of travelling through the stars.

The last chapter is particularly interesting as these retrieved humans come together again after several years and take on what has been called the last frontier, our mind.

Such a great tale and very enjoyable learning how our Earth might live again through the hearts and minds of those who have been retrieved.

I certainly would be interested in the comments from the Author suggesting that if there was enough interest he might be adding to the stories in a sequel.

The scores for those who look at such things:

The plot is an 8 - some gaps where things jump without intervening explanations.

Technical is an 8, some grammatical problems that a quick edit would resolve.

Appeal to the Reviewer is a stong 10. I did enjoy it.

An interesting take on science fictional relationships among humans, aliens, and the unknown.

To be honest, this was intellectually interesting, but didn't grab me in the way really good SF can.

Still, as I said, it was interesting. Without having looked at the author's other works, I hope he followed up with some offshoots and threads not explored here.
