Jericho Donavan lived a difficult life. Fatherless at 16 he dropped out of school to work at a coal mine to support his family. Drafted when he turned 18, he spent his 19th birthday in Vietnam. Three tours in Vietnam put him in a VA mental ward. The VA called him cured after four and a half years. They released him just in time to miss the funerals of his mother and sisters who allegedly died in a car wreck. Jerry was living under a bridge when he decided things needed to change. For the first few chapters, I was disappointed. This did NOT read like a typical Joe J story. It started slow, I thought that somone else had written it with Joe J permission or ghost written for him.
About 1/2 way through it started fleshing out to become an excellent story. I'm glad to point out that you can write a story with some sex in it without
being a stroke story or an Ob/gyn exam.
Follow Jericho as he grows up too quick and violently. He uses what has been taught and excells.
I wish a little more had been paid to character developement and detail in the environment while "in country".
While not a hankie story, there is still enough romance to cut across a lot of likes and dislikes.
If you are looking for a stroke story, this ain't it. If you are looking for a nice little story with winning, losing, getting better and a good dose of "get even" or even "get better" then this is it.
Yes there is a build up and if you actually read the story, the characters end up with who they should. I didn't think Papa had it in him.

To all of you who are reading this review, do yourselves a big favor and go ahead and read this story now. Then you can start reading the rest of Joe J's stories. I have read every single one of them from back when he first showed up on SOL. They're all good and well worth the read.
Joe J and TeNderLoin, thank you for collaborating on this great tale. It is worth higher than the measly 10/10 that Lazeez lets us give but that's what we will have to put up with.
A really great tale, with great characters, well plotted out. Loads of fun. Some varmints get killed. What more could you want in a story?
