Designed for casual, hardcore, and competitive players alike, the game offers three distinct levels of play. Players can fight campaigns against computer-controlled opponents, take part in the universe-spanning metagame known as Universe at War against other player guilds, or compete in the elite WarMAC League.
In Universe at War, defeat costs more than time. Destroyed machines must be repaired, and damaged parts and weaponry risk permanent reductions in quality. In the WarMAC League, the best players battle not only for the right to call themselves champions, but also for large prize pools and lucrative sponsorships.
The game serves as the backdrop for stories about the people who love it. Some play as a hobby. Others make it their job, or even their life’s work. Some have been cast out by former teams and organizations, sometimes despite being right. Some are former champions who miss the competition and the game’s endless tactical and strategic possibilities. Others seek fame, money, or simply the joy of playing.

Adrian Mercer is a former champion of the game World of WarMachines. He left the competitive scene after an unfair ban from the higher levels of the game. He's stuck making characters and WarMachines for other people. Elias Voss is TheNumbersGuy. He gets scapegoated for being right. Cut adrift.
