Starts with Victor (Vic) Bauers' parents' marriage before his birth. Continues with his birth and early years. He joins the Duke's Household Guard and goes to war. His King wins the war, but has a problem in the Duchy of Adair. The King's solution is promote Vic to be a Duke, and have him takeover the Duchy Adair as the new Duke
