A story in the Beyond the Wall of Sleep Universe Part of Gothic Horror Challenge
New Orleans used to be a city of elegance and beauty. It's all gone now, and instead of laissez les bons temps rouler, I get the leftovers from a Cold War era gulag. Except sometimes, I see things. Hear things too. A brass band leading a funeral procession. A whiff of magnolia. The whisper of live oaks draped in Spanish moss. I don't know what's real anymore. And I can't get out.
Melinda, she's a monster hunting, kick-ass girl who loves sex. But who is the stranger she brings home? And how it is possible he knows her secrets when they've only just met?
Girl meets plant for cross-pollination(?). Emily house-sits for her botanist neighbor and gets seduced by an enormous flowering plant in the professor's greenhouse.
As the title indicates, this is the second in the "Revenge" series. Julie couldn't just leave it alone. She tried to have me killed. Fail. So I went back for seconds. Got her sister too. And some of Keri's friends. And a couple of Great Danes because, well, why knot, er, why not? You should read the first book before this one. Also, this is EXTREME! Not kidding! You have been WARNED! Don't kill the messenger (author). I'm not the protagonist! Proceed with EXTREME caution!
A Halloween 2023 Contest Entry
Doyle Grogan is fifteen, diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. His main issue is a lack of focus, which has caused him problems with his academics. His one talent is he draws sketches that take on an almost lifelike quality. His most recent drawing showed the school’s gym with a banner for the upcoming Halloween Dance. Doyle’s greatest tormentor, Gabe Silverman, lay on the floor with his throat sliced wide open. Blood pooled around his obviously dead body.
