This belongs to the Asteroid Apocalypse genre. A retired Seabee captain keeps a large crowd alive during a 10-year vigil waiting for the earth to recover. A Story in the Walnut Street Universe
Lisa White is marketing director for an aggressive investment company. Kyle is director of technology for the same firm, and the two are always at each other's throats. When they must cooperate on a critical project, they realize that the same force drives repulsion and attraction. After working late one night they find themselves in each other's arms and end up spending one passionate night together. Then, a crisis threatens Lisa's job and she's forced to choose between Kyle and her career.

They met on line; he was in his late forties, she was seventeen; they lived an ocean apart and both were just going through the motions of living. With all that against them a relationship between them could never work...could it? Except for the IM name, the first few paragraphs of this story are true. My imagination supplied the remainder. (Definitely not a stroke story.) / (Reviews)
