Jasper Samuelson leads a wagon train over the California Trail in 1862. The Jayhawkers and Bushwhackers are a real nuisance. And the Indians aren't very helpful, either. Thank God for shotguns and buckshot!

This is a sequel to "Leaving Independence." Eddy and Martha and the family settle in Sacramento. Eddy becomes a deputy marshal and a business man and Martha becomes a mother. Eddy does have to keep his shotgun handy, and so do the boys.

This is the story of Jasper Samuelson's last wagon train from Independence, MO, headed for Sacramento, CA. It relates 6 months of almost nothing but trouble from outlaws, Indians, and the weather. Not everybody finishes the trip!

Eddy hires some new deputies and has a battle with the Chinese criminal gang from San Francisco. This is the FOURTH story in the series.
