Classic Passion — a series by RedRambler

Fourteen-year-old Tom Hardy has spent his life functioning as a psychological punching bag, surviving a domestic war zone. Forced into a cross-country move to the sweltering, mosquito-infested swamps of 1962 Florida by his fiercely abusive grandmother, Tom relies on the internalized voice of his mentor, an older girl named Birdie, to keep his spirit intact. When his grandmother's cruel attempts to break him land him in the hospital, Tom realizes he must finally stop playing the victim and take ownership of his life. But his grandmother has one last card to play. Tom realizes that he has allies that have been preparing him for years and is now ready. It’s The Karate Kid meets The Great Santini in the Florida swamps. A fiercely satisfying coming-of-age survival story where the ultimate superpower isn't magic, it’s turning deep-seated trauma into unshakeable protective leadership, all while making a killing catching deadly reptiles.
