This story is a quick read and effortless. There are no amazingly big or difficult words to master. The grammar is nice and reasonably forgiving. Technically speaking, some of the phrasing seems clumsy, but certainly no worse than anything I've read in the Harry Potter series, and I have read them all! As a crafted story, structure-wise, it follows a blueprint for success I've seen elsewhere in the genre.
I picked this story to read because it had the "romance" code right next to the "rape" code and I found that an interesting mix, but as I said, I've seen this sort of thing before.
Hmmmm...I really don't want to give up anything the author might be trying to keep a surprise, so I find myself being necessarily vague. I apologize for that. Suffice to say that if you're looking for a hardcore rape story with a lot of bitterness, sobbing and recriminations, years of therapy followed by a messy divorce and suicide...This isn't that kind of story.
It's one of the other kind and I'll admit that it disappointed me a little.
So far as plot, I have to be kind of brutal here and say that it's a very familiar one and the story really isn't bringing anything new to the table. The story proceeds in a nice linear fashion, except for the odd and brief back-story early on, and wraps up in a way that becomes very predictable halfway through. It isn't twisty or even twisted.
There is a lot of sex and I liked it, actually. It's not extreme porn, in my opinion, but kind of nicely done and sweet. For a rape, I mean. I get the impression that the author is a really sugary sort of chocolates and flowers gentleman who likes romance and happy endings and...Gosh. The sex was a lot like eating a big slice of Black Forest cake with a little vanilla ice cream on the side. I love that stuff.
I suppose, if I had one piece of advice for the author it would be to add the "cuckold" code. It's not necessary perhaps, but it would explain the flavour a little better than the bare bones synopsis does. A case could be made for "Wimp Husband" and "Slut Wife" as well, but perhaps not. It's a close call.
Readers looking for an abundance of rape/humiliation/violence/etc will be disappointed. Readers who like fantasy rape role-play between consenting adults (which I think this most resembles) will be more appreciative.
