1,000 Follower Milestone bonus time!

Posted at

Thank you! While I was sitting here and playing at converting files today, plus cleaning the house (how MUCH laundry can pile up in 11 days with no power), I hit two milestones.

1,000 Followers total as an author, and 1,000 people have Book Two in their library. You know what that means! Welcome to BONUS CHAPTER time! I'll get Chapter 49 uploaded and available immediately. (In case you're curious, 1,123 people have Book One in their library.)

And the reason for converting files is 430,107 words long, so we'll see how soon I can post the Bookapy link. I'm hoping I've done that right.

New meter base installed and 48 uploaded

New meter base and weather head were installed today. So, all I need is OG&E to hook the lines up that are laying in the yard now to our service lines, and flip the switch, and I'll have electricity at home again.

Chapters 48 is in the queue for Saturday morning.

I've been a bit amused by some of the reactions people have had because Cal didn't act like they thought he should. The minor detail that he hasn't gone all 'Homelander' ... well, except for when he has ... amuses me. He's an ALIEN! No Compound V. No raised from a baby by a kindly old couple. You tell him something, he sees that's how it's supposed to be, then by God, that's how everyone should be.

Oh, and I've put 'replacement' chapters for 31 - 47 in the queue as well. Nothing huge, major, or otherwise earth-shattering that changes them. It's just they'll now match what'll be in the Bookapy post when I make it next week. (Just need Chapter 60 back from proofreading, and it's good to go.)

What suck

Well, the good news is, Book Two is complete. The bad news is I'm going to have to get power at home, before I can make sure it's all correct. Really don't feel like lugging my tower in someplace. For those of you counting, this is Day Nine.

Laptop has an older version of Word on it, which is great for typing, not so great for saving in appropriate file formats. Worst case, I'll upload the currently edited and saved version on my USB on Friday so there's something uploaded Saturday. And here, I thought I was just paranoid because I had a USB I used all the time.

Oh, what this also means is that the Bookapy complete story should be up next week, for those of you that can't wait. I'll also do a full replacement of what's posted so far when that goes up. I've had time to tweak all 30 of these chapters. Very minor changes, mostly due to duplicated words or extra spaces. And because I'm willing to admit a mistake, 'Fight On'. 😈

Cleanup time

I got my chainsaw ready for tomorrow, to clean up my back yard. Still too wet today. And dark - we're down to 200,000 without power, including us. Wife's work spent $100,000 on a generator, which they didn't have. Several nursing homes and assisted living facilities here have had to evacuate. There are crews coming in from out of state, just like our crews have gone out to other states in the past.

I'm going on a tangent here. What's interesting is that churches with power are open for warming centers, people are inviting family and friends over to stay, and we're just getting the job done. No one is saying where's the government with their help, it's just neighbor helping neighbor, just like after tornadoes down here. We're a disaster area, don't get me wrong. So many trees down, all the streets blocked, other damage. But we're just taking care of it.

The sounds of silence

Not the new cover of that song by 'Disturbed', which I recommend if you haven't heard it, but the furnace, ceiling fan, and my CPAP all shutting down at 4 am. OG&E shows 260,000 without power in the state, over 200,000 just in the metro. Mind you, the OKC metro area is larger than the two smallest US states ... combined.

Even the Survivor Tree has been damaged, which has a lot of people upset. Oh, well - got a pot of water simmering on the stove (gas) and it''s not like this is the first ice storm I've been through. Just glad we can charge cell phones in the cars.
