"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage."
― Alexander Fraser Tytler
Tiffany pushed me over three hundred thousand reads, or a close equivalent, depending on how we look at the numbers we're provided. I want to thank all of you who read my stories, all of your feedback that makes me want to keep writing, and the urging of a couple of you to actually try my hand at writing and publishing professionally. I'm working on that as we speak, and I'll let you know how it's working as soon as I gather some feedback or at least logical data on the subject. Again, Thank you all. Charlie Fornow.
I'd like to wish everyone here at SOL a happy and prosperous New Year and thank you all of those who read my stories. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it, writing, and knowing some of you enjoy my stories makes me pretty damned happy. :-)
A few days ago I started a new universe with short stories about how romances start. I hope you all enjoy them. They don't go far, but then, they're not supposed to. In any case, it is my wish that they are looked upon favorably. It's the "There Was This Girl" universe.
Enough! I need to go make Buffalo Chicken Dip for our New Years / Card Playing Party at our friends' house this evening.
Happy New Year to all and to all a safe night !!!!
Charlie, at least for now.
The final chapter, Chapter Four, of the Progidy is posting. Thank you to those who have read it, commented on it, or just thought about it. It was fun. More coming as the muses allow. Have a great rest of the week.
What he said! Solemn Veteran's Day to all of you (us) who served. It is really NOT just another holiday.
Semper Fi to you and yours. I am of another crowd, so,"
Off we go, into the Wild Blue Yonder...", "Peace Is Our Profession", and all that.
Regardless of where you served, or when, you served, and could have been in a bunker or a command post, the choice was to serve, not where. Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and all points beyond...
Thank you all, and to all a snowy afternoon.
