This story has been posted before and I hope this final version is a much better version. First there was rlfj, who brilliantly checked logic and consistency. Then I met Dookie who took me to task for my stilted dialogues and made them more readable. This is the final and improved version of Chapter I, where you meet three people, who fall in love, have disagreements, solve problems, and finally join in a caring bond. Once the next five chapters are edited, they will be posted also. Please have patience.
If you have read it before, spend some time and read it again. If not, read and enjoy it. In any case rate the story and let me know what you liked – and what not. That is the only reward a writer has.
James and his family are ready for a normal life, when Maureen persuades him to visit the estates his family had owned in East Germany. They are welcomed by the people who remember the care his family had for them over the centuries, and Maureen and James propose a plan to revitalize the city that had fallen into deep depression. However, a corrupt mayor destroys their intentions, and they return to Sydney. After more than a year, he is invited back again - the administration lost the last election, and a new plan is proposed. An agreement is reached, and a new life has started for the city of Elk. The castle is rebuilt, schools are built, and the inauguration even has a formal ball with long dresses for the ladies.
Suddenly, an election to the Sejm changes everything - the Prime Minister threatens expropriation – in a mismanaged economy, he cannot have a German Count show what good management can do for people to have a life again. What will he do? Pay a bribe to keep at least part of his investment? Will he go to war, risking everything to maintain his ideals?
This is the end of the long story, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Life is getting back to normal, and James has taken control of his life. He’s negotiating the purchase of NT’s main competitor in NSW, invents an interesting option to succeed his objective, saving fifty million dollars from Eileen’s first target, and goes to reward himself and his loves in a wonderful spa. Two beautiful hosts decide to get him into their beds, and James has to show all his strength to survive. But even so - could life be better?
Suddenly, James is at a loss on what to do with his life - a stupid HQ senior executive has destroyed his dream, and to add insult to injury, he is a rude and foolish Texan. What to do? He gets advice to start consulting (which ends up frustrating), Eileen stares down the Chairman to get a written apology, and in the end, she gets what she always wanted - he’ll work with her in her company. There are some additional complications, but she takes his recommendation and goes to war to expand the company. He survives an important golf game with the last stroke on the last hole. There are anniversaries and presents, and Jenny joins them in Eileen’s company. It is all coming together.
It would be a good idea to read the previous three chapters to understand the flow of the story.
Please remember to read and rate the story – the only reward a writer has is the appreciation of his readers.
James is happy – he is married to the most beautiful woman in his world, has her mother adoring him, and his secretary is not bad at all. Love abounds - mishaps appear occasionally but are soon overcome. They buy a car for the countess, Anniversaries and Christmas bring presents, but at the New Year’s Ball, he must defend his life. He is honored as the Main Speaker at Hawaii's Annual IBM Sales Meeting, but then disaster strikes. What can he do now that one of his dreams has ended?
Please remember that the only reward a writer has is if the reader appreciates his effort and lets him know this by the rating he gives him.
