Grammarly insists that when I use some form of the verb "wake" I follow it with "up." I yell at Grammarly and ask it, "Do you think there's a negation, that falling asleep would be waking down?"
Why is it that English speakers feel such a strong need to modify... everything? We can't just wake, we must wake up. We can't just lie, we must lie down. We can't just see a flock, we must see a whole flock. What, pray tell, is the number that is a whole flock? Is it 50? Is it 79? Is it 17^3? Does the size of the sheep or the birds or the whatever affect what is considered whole when referring to a flock of whatever subject? That is, is a whole flock of sheep 25, but a whole flock of sparrows 286?
And, then, there's "unique." I've seen constructions such as "very unique," "wholly unique," and "incredibly unique." What is it about "one of a kind" that requires us to modify the adjective "unique" when it's unmodifiable? At least, it is that so as long as there's not something like "one-half of a kind."
When checking where I was in Civia's story in preparation for writing Chapter 13, I fixed some minor inconsistencies with Beth canon and found some serious logical missteps. So, I have slightly altered the last part of Chapter 12. I doubt that a re-read is necessary but have at it as you will.
Beth (the story) continues to get more and more complex, and it's requiring a lot of mental energy to keep my timelines straight and remember what happened last week in story time. I'm hoping to stick to four-day posting intervals, but occasional chapters may slip for the next month or so.
Because of a sudden stint afield that included ten consecutive very long days, I could not stay ahead of the publication of chapters. I've just uploaded Chapter 191 and it should see publication soon. Hopefully, in all the comp time I've racked up, I'll get back ahead as I was before that long but enjoyable time in the field.
It's hell gettin' old.
I forgot to take ALL the girls' Saturday plans into account when I wrote Chapter 185, so had to make a minor change to the end of the chapter. It will have little or no effect on readers but I thought I should let you know.
A co-worker out on a project was in a car crash, so I was shanghaied to go fill in for her in the field. While being in the field is great, the very long days here at the height of summer make for little to no time to keep up with my writing of Beth. Chapter 181 will be delayed for some time beyond what should have been tonight's publication.
