'Boner'

If you see this word in a narrative regarding sex, I'm woodering if everybody in the English-speaking world have a full and clear image of what it is? In Britain there's little doubt, but not sure if it is common currency in the US. 'Boner': noun, concrete. 'Emily now saw his boner'.

Baby Maker, by Rachael Ross

hmm sounds like an excellent concept! Having just read Sterling's review of this, it strikes me the pubescent boy protaganist - with a craving for seeding his female peers and a sorting the lust/love wiring in his brain - is pretty similar to my Jason Steed character, only Jason is 21! Would be interesting if Rachael ever finishes this, to see where it's going for his character development. Would be even more interesting (from my pov) if I ever finish Jason. I have half an idea where it's going with HIM.

ps - in Baby Maker, the first 'objective' appears to be a 13yo girl - um, where will this stand with the rules one wonders, if it is to be continued? I suppose she can be 14 in the story and we all mentally subtract a year, but then that leaves intact the act of 'thought-crime'.

sci-fi complaint

A while back, as well all know, a lot of regular users were complaining about the proliferation of pedo stories on this site, which is fair enough, as it's essentially a minority genre and offensive to many. However, by the same token, I'd like to have a grumble about the proliferation nowadays of sci-fi, or more accurately, the semi-literate junk that masquerades under that label. Don't get me wrong, I think sci-fi and sci-fantasy are great genres in the right hands, but it seems to me that the same people who vote down any underage stories on principle are probably the same who automatically give 8s and above to sci-fi stories which have all the literary quality of year 6 (UK age 10-11) writing assignment. I recently read a review where it was said the story in question was 'commercially viable': oh please, do me a favour! Without naming names, the said story had the feel of being written by a cross between a fully-alzheimered Terry Pratchet and a pubescent boy sci-fi comic junkie. If this site must become primarily a club for this type of stuff, then at least rate these stories (and others) objectively please.

computer games

Somebody has been asking me about 'Little Anna's Computer Games'. Whatever happened to it? I made a promising start to this story a year ago, about a guy 'showcasing' his preteen daughter on webcam and chatting via text with guys who were viewing it, and inviting her herself to chat with said guys via text. I found that the concept hit a brick wall and I pulled it. I am contemplatng ways of reworking it, though, or perhaps incoprorating the idea into a larger new story.

reviews

It's hard to see what purpose a lot of the reviews serve. Most reviewers just seem to be 'licking ass' and almost without exception give marks of 9 and 10 across the board. Come on, even if you're reading an author and story you are fond of, surely they are not so perfect? The idea of reviews is to be supportive and constructive, sure - but it can hardly be called constructive when the review amounts to 2 short paragraphs and no thought whatsoever given to intelligent critique. The '8' I gave for my one review so far, is worth more than a whole damn sack full of other reviewers so-called '10's. I just wanted to point this out. I'm feeling a bit bad for the guy whose story I reviewed now, as he has the lowest damn score on the list - which in reality is actually a very good score. I think I've made my point.
