I always structure my stories so they can be read in one sitting, taking about the same amount of time as a movie (or a TV serial if a shorter story). I give convenient break-off points if you don't quite have the time to spare.

The themes I write about are not always things I would do or condone in real life. For me the point of writing is to experience as vividly as possibly an alternate life, to 'live' and see the world through the eyes of another person, or to put the real 'us' in a different situation - the place of our dreams perhaps.
