I've just submitted my next story in my roleplay character's universe. I apologize for the delay, I had intended it go up much sooner. But life has been kicking my ass lately.
This story takes us back a bit in time for my character. In this case to the relatively early days of his military career, so he would be about 22 or 23. It is recommended you read the first two stories as there are hints of what's been covered there included in this story
I for one made the conscious choice of leaving comments open. Even if I hadn't, obviously people still have the ability to send direct messages to an author. The vast majority of these have been very welcome and I thank you for your encouragement. But it's one from a small-minded person I'm going to address.
I am writing this from his point of view. My character was basically unconscious while cutting the trees down, delimbing, ane stacking them. I was criticized for not mentioning the delimbing of the trees my character cut down. This wasn't a mistake, it was a conscious choice. If you read it you'll notice it is waking up from a blackout. Already in the forest and with the trees already cut down and stacked. So any delimbing of the trees had already happened while he was blacked out.
I explained that with my response. I get another message back asking what about not writing about the 12" tree he consciously cut down, delimbed, and stacked. Except...if you read that part he didn't touch the tree after cutting it down. Didn't position it to delimb it, didn't stack it. The tree was left where it stood. So please, if you're going to be the type to nitpick details...make sure you actually have an accurate complaint to make. Otherwise you're wasting words and annoying an author.
That being said...I am always open to constructive criticism. I completely understand I am no where near the caliber of writer of some of my favorites here and never will be. But I am always willing to hear legitimate tips on how I can improve. Next story will be coming soon, I just have to debate where the stories should best fit in order, as chronologically they jump around. But it's how he the character wrote down his stories in the roleplay.
First, not even sure if anyone will read this as I haven't sent anything new in years. However, I have been doing some online role-playing and eventually wrote a few stories around my character. Wanted to see if there was any interest there. He's a retired Army SpecOps soldier who eventually finds out he's more. It wouldn't be a complete new starting point, as the first story was written after playing him for over a year. Anyways...if you're interested please drop a comment or send me an email. So far these would be 4 stories
So on a good note for the reader community here. I have learned from my inactive story that I should only post once I have enough to finish the story. So that's what I did with "One Boy, One Girl." It's based off the Colin Ray song by the same name, just fleshing out the characters some. So the idea is from his song, I just added to it.
The feedback request. My "First and Second Date..." story has proven to be a rough one to write and I keep stalling out. Is there any interest in me picking it up and finishing it?
Part two of my Veteran's day writing attempt has been posted and my short story is now complete. I apologize ahead that it isn't a story I had edited - I didn't want to lose the emotions behind it by over analyzing the content. So it's a rougher story then I'd ideally like, but hopefully the meaning and emotion behind it will make up for it. I'll get back to my other story in the next week or so.
Ryan
