Courage and cowardice

Posted at

One thing I try to do is continue my education. In that vein I'm watching a docu-drama on the life of Nancy Wake. Looking at it, looking at her life, I feel that I'm a coward in the face of the developing world wide fascism that I see on the horizon.
If you here expected me not to occasionally, or more than occasionally write on 'politics' or more precisely the current and developing world situation then you have been reading the wrong author.
First if you think that the currently forming world wide junta won't come for us, maybe me first, then you are foolish. We are a part of the resistance, whether or not we like it because we represent that which is on the edge, that which is uncontrollable by a world wide state that is increasingly obsessed with controlling every aspect of our life.
I guess my question is this: Who in this age of coming terror will be worthy of the Nancy Wake award for courage in the face of tyranny. I know it won't be me, I'm a very weak reed indeed.

So I was shopping for a laptop. Of course I probably don't need a ruggedized one (I certainly can't afford one that advertises itself as rugged) , but I do need (for certain values of need) one that isn't quite as flimsy as the one I picked up a couple of years ago. I don't think I dropped it but I do think that the dust (I live in very dusty conditions) has caused the hinges to give up the ghost, so it is on its last legs as it is pulling apart due to the hinges not working.
So I've poked around and can get refurbished Panasonic ones that are several generations old (honestly that probably doesn't matter to me) in the $700 range. Something I can tote, something that will be reasonably fast, heck I could back migrate to my older celeron based lappy that is still working since the game I was playing ended and that was the main reason for buying a newer lappy. The older lappy keeps working, it hasn't failed due to bad hinges and though it is slow, it certainly will do for word processing (writing) which is what I'm sure my few remaining fans would like me to get on with....

Okay, not the worst sort of one, but still on Christmas it was snowing, still snowing some today and blowing.... BRRR! Winds moving enough snow that I spent an hour or so today shoveling snow to make paths around my mom's place. I've a week off and tomorrow I'm going to see if I can get a car I picked up passed smog. If I can then it is off to DMV to get it in my name, if not then I think I'll give it to my sister who lives in Klamath Falls Or. She doesn't have to get it past a smog check there, so much easier to get the transfer. I may ask to drive it for a bit... Well I will need it for a week or so, since my Mazda is in a snowdrift that was at least bumper deep with a flat tire... At least it is in my mom's yard... But until the snow at least quits blowing I don't intend to try to change that tire!!

I wish you all the best in this season. If you celebrate some other holiday at this time of year, know I don't intend to slight you, but I can't know what you might celebrate and don't have a complete list, so just know I hope you are well.

Writing? Since someone complained that I should reserve this for news about my writing, I must say everything remains in hiatus.
