"You are different than I would have imagined." The Queen said.
"A strange admission given the fact that you did not want me to exist in the first place." I said.
"It is possible for one to be wrong." The Queen replied.
"Are you saying you were wrong about me?" I asked teasingly as I moved closer to her.
As I stepped forward I felt the crackle of two energy fields meeting, and I immediately realized it was us. I was the first of my kind, and she was the first of hers. It stands to reason that our powers would react to each other. By her face I could see that she felt it too. While most of our powers were kept at bay by this barrier between us, a part of us leaked through, mine more so than hers. Still it was enough for my heartbeat to increase as her power touched me and tried to work its magic. Naturally I resisted, but I didn't retreat or bat her attempt away, it was more like a lover playing footsie with you or running a hand up you thigh; it teases and distracts you, but you can work through it.
I noted it was the Queen who gave first and was obviously trying to control her breathing when she said, "It remains to be seen. I have not been wrong before."
"That remains to be seen." I replied with a smile.
The Queen noted the hint of challenge in my voice and looked away, breaking eye contact. She had been close to surrendering in our little battle, and I had managed to give her some food for thought.
"Would you prefer to have your own quarters?" The Queen asked, trying to put some distance between us despite her desire to have me.
I found the contradiction all too humorous, "Scared that you might lose control?"
I felt the slight tinge of fear even before she spoke, "That almost sounds like a challenge."
She had allowed a little anger to show up in her voice. This was meant to intimidate me, but I far too good a student of human nature, even without my powers. The simple truth was the Queen actually was, and she was using her anger to cover what she considered to be a weakness. At the time I wasn't so sure it was.
