I walked out of the bathroom listening to her laugh.

“Laugh now bitch, we’ll see who’s laughing this time next week.”

I went to the den and checked on the boy. He was fine watching that movie for the umpteenth time. I went to my office down the hall.

There I started my research. First the car license plate. It belongs to a Martha Washington. She works as a janitor at the courthouse. Good I have a friend who works in the county clerk’s office. I called him.

“Sure I know Martha. A fine woman. Her daughter died of a drug overdose about 7 years ago and she is raising her two grandsons. Tyrone and Dwayne.”

I asked if he knew their last names. He did not but suspected they used Washington since their mother was never married. He said, “They have different fathers, know what I mean?”

I could give a shit about their parents. I thanked him and hung up. I began searching for Tyrone. He should have graduated last year. Bingo! He did not graduate!
