“Turn so you can see your sexy body in the mirror,” Shelly told her.
“OH YES! I have never had a sexy ass like other women. I hardly ever let my husband see me naked, because I’ve always been ashamed of my dumpy ass. I love saying ass, and I do love my sexy ass!”
“Jerry loves lying on top of my ass and fucking me from behind. I love the feel of his cock, going deep inside my pussy from behind, too.”
I told them, “Hurry and find a really sexy gown for Janice to wear. She’ll need something to wear when we go up to our suites after the show.”
When we left the dressing room, all three were wearing dresses alike ... Flesh colored and sheer - with no sequins. NONE. I knew that once we’re under the bright stage lights, they may as well be naked.
They look even more naked and delicious as they walk ahead of me. From the rear, their bodies are identical. From the front, only their faces are different.
Joe waved me over when I stepped upon the stage. “Your Levi Lady was here for a minute. She’s gone to the main entrance to meet her two guests for the night. She said to tell you, they’re planning on staying the night.”
“Thanks Joe ... Hey, take a look at what’s coming up the steps now.”
“JERRY! I still say you need to Hang a Shingle! You have created a three-part perfect Masterpiece this time. Give this crowd a show to remember this night. They’ll be expecting it when they see those three!”
Sherry made the announcement that we were back, as the crowd was still coming in to find their seats. I wasn’t sure if they were that happy I was back, or happy to see Sherry and her two assistants dressed identical.
Either way, they were still standing and roaring, when I opened with an older Hank Williams song.
Cold Cold Heart © 1950 Hank Williams
I tried so hard my dear to show that you’re my every dream
Yet you’re afraid each thing I do is just some evil scheme
A memory from your lonesome past keeps us so far apart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?
Another love before my time made your heart sad and blue
And so my heart is paying now for things I didn’t do
In anger unkind words are said that make the teardrops start
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?
You’ll never know how much it hurts to see you sit and cry
You know you need and want my love, yet you’re afraid to try
Why do you run and hide from life, to try it just ain’t smart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?
There was a time when I believed that you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled to a memory
The more I learn to care for you, the more we drift apart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?
This was my first time to do this song in front of an audience. I felt like I was trying too hard - not - to sound like Hank. I felt like I’d screwed up in a couple of places.
Was I ever shocked when the song ended and the crowd stood and cheered for what seemed like forever until I nodded to Joe, and he started the lead-in on the next number.
Take These Chains From My Heart ©Hank Williams 1953
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
You’ve grown cold and no longer care for me
All my faith in you is gone but the heartaches linger on
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
Take these tears from my eyes and let me see
Just a spark of the love that used to be
If you love somebody new let me find a new love too
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
Give my heart just a word of sympathy
Be as fair to my heart as you can be
Then if you no longer care
For the love that’s beating there
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
You’ve grown cold and no longer care for me
All my faith in you is gone but the heartaches linger on
Take these chains from my heart and set me free
I felt better as I sang this one - then Joe went straight into the next one and we did three in a row of Hank’s songs.
“You Win Again”©1953 Hank Williams
The news is out - all over town
That you’ve been seen - a-runnin’ ‘round
I know that I - should leave, but then
I just can’t go - you win again.
This heart of mine - could never see
What everybody knew but me
Just trusting you - was my great sin
What can I do - you win again.
I’m sorry for - your victim now
‘Cause soon his head - like mine will bow
He’ll give his heart - but all in vain
And someday say - you win again.
You have no heart - you have no shame
You take true love - and give the blame
I guess that I - should not complain
I love you still - you win again.
I felt like I was on top of the world after that song. I looked back at Joe, swiping my fingers across my right eye, like I was wiping away my tears.
He nodded and started playing an old song written years ago by Fred Rose. This is one of Mom’s favorites and when we started, I wished she could hear me sing it with this sound system - Joe backing me up, and Larieta making that piano sound so sad.
Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain ©1945 Fred Rose
In the twilight glow I see her
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we’d never meet again
Love is like a dyin’ ember
Only memories remain
Through the ages I’ll remember
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Some day when we meet up yonder
We’ll stroll hand in hand again
In a land that knows no parting
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Now my hair has turned to silver
All my life I’ve loved in vain
I can see her star in heaven
Blue eyes crying in the rain
This one, I felt really good about when I finished. But the audience was still seated, not even clapping until Sherry walked over and hugged me.
“Jerry, you made tears come to my eyes when you sang that one. Let’s draw some numbers and pass out some door prizes. I think the audience is just as stunned and as I am.”
By then, they were standing - then the clapping started. Larieta brought the bucket with the ticket stubs in it and handed it to Sherry. At first, I thought that was why they were standing and clapping ... Then, they kept on and on.
Sherry told me - as she held the mike up in front of her, “Sing that one again, with just you and your guitar.”
The crowd roared approval and I looked back at Joe. He waved at me, like he was telling me to go ahead.
I’ve played this one and sang it to myself many times - and I’ve played my guitar and sang it for Mom a few times. but this was the first time I did a solo onstage with a sound system like this - just me and my guitar.
It sounded strange to me at first, then I picked it up and started singing.
