“So, the Kansas Havenite militia has now captured Junction City, while the Nation of Islam has won a major battle at Overland Park against the Army of the Union under General Russell Rao. Rao’s entire Kansas theater is rapidly crumbling in real time here. A whole division, under its last divisional commander, Major General Dominic Eaton, has been encircled, decimated, and forced to surrender, disbanding it and taking it captive,” Tozroman, the demon who served as Secretary of War, briefed his boss, the Prophet David Howard, the interim Governor of Iowa Free State.
“Meanwhile, the Fifth Battle of Boonville seems to have broken the Army of the New Covenant’s back. They lost two-thirds of a division killed, wounded, or missing, and the remaining third just plain surrendered to the East Missouri Havenite Militia. It was one of just four divisions still operational, still mobile, and then the field commander, Major General Ralph Doe, the brother of Karen Doe Sashimi, wasted it trying to retake a city of maybe seven or eight thousand people. This has so critically weakened the New Covenant faction that several communities in the no man’s land have been evacuated by their remaining army. They have no navy or air force, and any gunboats that they have are being neutralized in a hurry,” Lieutenant Governor Casper Novak informed him now.
“Bad news is that Rao retook Beatrice. It was too far south and our forces in Nebraska were overextended there. Good news is that while he did that, we captured Grand Island, a much bigger prize. His days are numbered. Our troops and sympathizers have withdrawn from Beatrice in time, thankfully. If Grand Island is gone, Rao’s grip on Nebraska is slipping for sure,” now First Lieutenant Daniel Orange added for his part.
“Hmm. So the Army of the Union got Beatrice back, but lost Grand Island in Nebraska? The loss of Beatrice hurts, but Grand Island was Rao’s last major logistical hub there. Without it, his Nebraska campaign is done. The Union’s entire northern flank is collapsing,” the Prophet David Howard mused, scratching his thick beard as he studied the map pinned to the war room’s wall. The pushpins marking contested cities had shifted like sand in a storm.
“We have Rao surrounded, encircled, if you will, and the circle is shrinking by the day. The last great warlord in North America is bleeding profusely, hemorrhaging manpower and resources by the day,” Novak observed now.
“Illinois and Indiana are now officially Free States and have signed a treaty of friendship with each other, setting their pre apocalypse borders as permanent, too. They have formally requested a similar pact with us and with Wisconsin. Naturally. To say that some folks in Michigan are nervous is to put things mildly.
“Of course, they have bigger worries, those Seventh Day Adventist pricks. They are busy trying to administer newly conquered sectors in Ontario and watch their coalition partners. These aren’t natural allies, the Seventh Day Adventists, the Upper Peninsula Free State, the Black Guard, the Army of the Prairie, and the Maritime Provinces Coalition. They are only working together to finish off Brother Antoine and his Church of the New Grace/Sacred Dominion regime in their remaining territory in Quebec,” First Lieutenant Brittany Coleman provided more intel now.
“And speaking of that, the Maritime forces are bypassing Saint-Georges in favor of seizing the rest of Quebec first. They seem to want to isolate Brother Antoine and his regime there. Saguenay has fallen to the MPC forces just this morning and Alma has been declared an open city now. Saguenay was a massive loss for Brother Antoine’s regime, of course, and represents a deep gash inside his remaining territory,” Tozroman noted with delight ... he hated everything about the renegade monk and theocratic tyrant.
