Chapter 3: Thigh to Thigh on the Piano Bench
Erotica Sex Story: Chapter 3: Thigh to Thigh on the Piano Bench - Margot is 48, a cellist who stopped playing the day she married. Her husband Edmund, 57, looks at his Steinway more than he's looked at her in years. So she starts knocking it out of tune, just enough to bring Ansel, the 25-year-old tuner with perfect pitch and patient hands, back every Thursday while Edmund works across the courtyard. A slow-burn affair of near-misses, stolen afternoons and a recital with forty guests. Can she stay quiet until the final chord?

Thirty-seven days, and I had become a woman who owned a tuning lever and knew how to use it.
This week I’d been greedy. The A again, a whisker flat, and a D in the octave below for good measure, because one fault can be weather but two begin to look like a job. I lay awake afterward composing the lie I’d tell if Edmund noticed the second one first. He didn’t notice either. He noticed that the Financial Times had been delivered late.
A navy skirt that stopped at the knee and swung when I walked. A fitted white shirt. Under them, lavender lace I’d never worn, bought on the same trip as the ivory and hidden at the back of a drawer as if it might go off in daylight. It was scratchy and pretty and absolutely unnecessary, and I thought about it every time I sat down.
Edmund’s blinds were up.
I could see him from the kitchen, framed in the boathouse glass across the wet gravel like a man in a painting of a man working: shirtsleeves, reading glasses, two screens, a cold cup of coffee he’d forget. If he raised his eyes, he’d see straight into the music room. The Steinway sat between us with its tail toward him, and when Ansel propped the lid, it rose like a black sail and hid the bench end of the piano, and the keyboard, and whoever might be sitting there, from the waist down.
From the waist up, we were a picture window.
Ansel arrived on the stroke of ten, as he always did. Rain on his hair. He nodded at me and at the courtyard in the same economical movement, as if logging both.
“Coffee?”
“Please. Black.”
I brought it to him at the piano and set it on a coaster on the floor, well away from the instrument, and then instead of going back to the island I sat down on the bench beside him.
“I thought I’d watch properly,” I said. “If it doesn’t put you off.”
“It doesn’t.” He shifted a few inches to make room, which was not enough room, and went back to the pin.
The bench is a concert bench, wide, leather-topped, but it isn’t made for two, not if one of them is six foot one. His thigh lay along mine from hip to knee. I felt the warmth of it through the navy wool, and the long muscle there moving slightly each time he leaned toward the strings. Every nerve in my body relocated to the outside of my right leg.
He didn’t move away.
Neither did I.
He struck the A and let it throb. Turned. Struck. His forearm brushed mine on the upstroke and went back. The room smelled of cedar and felt and my own bergamot warming on my skin, and rain ticked on the glass, and across the courtyard my husband read something on his left-hand screen and frowned.
Then, without looking up, without any change in his voice at all, Ansel said: “You did the D as well this time.”
My face went hot from the collarbone up.
“You’re getting neater,” he added. “Less of a scratch.”
I looked at the keys. I couldn’t look anywhere else. “Should I stop?”
He turned the lever a fraction. The beat in the A slowed, and slowed.
“No.”
One word. It went through me the way the note had gone through my finger.
Across the courtyard, Edmund looked up from his screen, stretched, and saw us. He lifted a hand and waved: the brisk, pleased wave of a man seeing his staff at work.
I waved back with my left hand. I smiled. The ring on it was, I suppose, perfectly visible.
