The morning sun cut through the kitchen blinds in long, white slats, and Danielle was at the table, still wrapped in a silk robe, one leg crossed over the other, a cup of coffee cradled between her palms. She looked serene, unbothered, the faintest smile still lingering from the night before.
Then Becca stormed in.
Her nightgown was a breath of pale lavender, stopping mid-thigh, and her copper hair was wild around her face. She crossed the tile floor with the kind of fury that made the air feel electric, stopping directly in front of her mother’s chair. Her hands went to her hips, and she stood over Danielle with her chest heaving.
“Daddy belongs to me,” Becca said, her voice low and shaking. “From now on, you need my permission to touch him. Any kind of sex. Any kind at all.”
Danielle set her coffee down. She looked up at her daughter with a calm, almost bemused expression, her blonde hair catching the light. And then she laughed. It wasn’t mocking, not exactly—it was that same warm, impossible laugh she’d let out in the bedroom when Matt had shown her the strap-on.
“Oh, sweetheart,” Danielle said. “Oh, my beautiful, silly girl.”
Becca’s face flushed. “I’m serious, Mom.”
Danielle reached out, caught Becca’s wrist, and pulled her forward until her daughter was leaning over the table. Her other hand came up to brush the hair from Becca’s face. Her smile softened.
“I already know,” Danielle said quietly. “I’ve known for weeks.”
Becca went still.
“You think I don’t see the way you look at him? The way he looks at you? I’m not blind, Becca. I know exactly what you and your father have been doing.” Her eyes shifted, finding Matt in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his coffee mug halfway to his lips. “And I approve.”
Matt’s eyebrows lifted. He set his mug down. “Dani.”
“So,” Becca said, her voice cracking just a little, “you’re not upset?”
Danielle pulled her all the way into a hug, wrapping both arms around her daughter and pressing her cheek to the top of her copper hair. “Upset? Not at all. I think it’s healthy. You have a safe, loving man who worships you. You’re not sneaking around with boys I don’t know. You’re not putting yourself in danger.” She pulled back, framing Becca’s face with both hands. “I know your father. He’s taking care of you. Your body is obviously satisfied. Your mind is still sharp. You’re happy.”
Becca’s eyes glistened. “I thought you’d hate me.”
“Sit down,” Danielle said, patting the chair across from her. “Both of you. We need to have an adult conversation.”
Matt crossed the kitchen and sat beside Danielle, his hand finding her knee under the table. Becca settled into the chair opposite them, looking smaller than she ever had; the fire burned out of her for the moment.
Danielle folded her arms on the table. “I’m not trying to take your father away from you, Becca. But you have to remember something. I was there first. I’m the one who married him. I’m the one who gave birth to you. If it weren’t for me and my body, you wouldn’t be here.”
Becca’s jaw tightened, but she didn’t interrupt.
“So sharing,” Danielle continued, her voice taking on a patient, maternal tone, “is what’s going to happen. You share your father with me, and I’ll share mine with you. Because that’s what family is. That’s what trust is.” She tilted her head, her eyes narrowing just slightly with a spark of wickedness. “Unless you have a problem with sharing, sweetheart.”
Becca looked down at the table. Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her nightgown. “No. I don’t have a problem.”
Danielle leaned forward, her voice dropping. “I want to ask you something. And I want you to answer honestly.”
Becca looked up.
“Do you ever think about me? The way you think about your father?” Danielle’s smile was slow and knowing. “Do you ever think about my pussy? About climbing back inside me? About tasting the place you came from?”
Becca’s face went crimson. Her mouth opened, but no words came out. She was blushing so deeply that the color spread down her chest, disappearing into the neckline of her nightgown. Her thighs pressed together under the table.
“It’s okay,” Danielle murmured. She rose from her chair, circled the table, and pulled Becca to her feet. Then she wrapped her arms around her in a hug so tight it made Becca gasp. “I love you. Both of you. And we can make this work.”
