Angela woke up slow, letting the pale morning light soak through the flimsy curtains. For a minute she just lay there with her eyes closed, soaking in the quiet, hugging the fading warmth of the bed. Then she noticed it—something solid and real pressed into the curve of her ass.

She cracked her eyes open. The blanket had slipped down overnight. Logan was so close behind her—way closer than she expected. She turned her head carefully. He looked totally relaxed, still asleep, but she could feel the hard length of him pressed into her, even through his sweatpants. The pressure felt hot, bolder than anything else he’d done so far.

Her first thought was to pull away. She’d told him to keep some space. But the heat of him, the way he fit there—it sent a quiet thrill through her. She didn’t move, just stayed there, testing it, then tucked herself back against him the tiniest bit. The contact deepened. A guilty twist of pleasure curled in her stomach as she pressed back, slow, feeling him through her own pants.

Logan made a low noise in his sleep and rolled over, the pressure gone all at once as he shifted onto his back. The place where he’d been touching her felt cold now. Angela stared up at the ceiling, heart running fast. Did he do that on purpose? She remembered him moving closer after she’d asked for space. The thought made her uneasy, even as that same warmth still burned between her legs.

She climbed out of bed quietly and padded to the little kitchen. By the time the kettle was heating up and she had some leftover rice in a pan, she heard the mattress creak. Logan shuffled in, looking rumpled and sleepy-eyed, like a regular guy. He seemed careful, somehow, in the morning sunlight.

“How’d you sleep?” she called over her shoulder, trying to sound breezy.

He paused a second too long. In his head, the night played out—the feeling of thin fabric, the soft give of her body, the way he’d had to hold still and not let himself move. He buried it, let it slip away before he spoke.

“Pretty good. Best sleep I’ve had in ages.”

Angela glanced his way, looking for a tell, but his face gave nothing away. “What’s the plan today?”

He leaned in at the counter. “You’re the boss.”

“Forest exploration,” she said, poking at the rice. “We’ll find a trail, see if we can locate that stream the listing mentioned. Easy stuff after yesterday’s hike.”

He nodded. The quiet between them stretched, a bit of charge left there after the morning, neither of them saying what they remembered.

Logan grabbed mugs from the shelf. “Did Brad text after you sent that sunset photo?”

“He looked at it.” She kept her voice neutral. “Didn’t bother to write back.”

“Maybe he’s jealous.”

Angela gave a quick, dry laugh, but it faded almost immediately. Logan caught the shift in her, saw her eyes drop and her mouth soften with some heavier feeling.

“It’s not Brad and Susan.” She shook her head, plating the eggs and rice slow, stalling. “It’s Peter. I miss him. After the accident I barely left him for more than a couple hours at a time. I didn’t think being away would feel like this.” The words sat heavy. She could still see her son’s face that morning—how careful he’d been, how he’d hugged her and promised he’d be fine. The ache sat under her ribs, quiet and constant.

Logan came over and put the mugs down. He met her eyes, gentle. “We’ll see him soon. The caretaker’s got him. He’s okay.”

Angela nodded, just once. The certainty in his voice loosened something tight inside her.
